InSeptember 2006, DC organized the inaugural KING OF NEW YORK contest, astreet skateboarding contest that hit New York over a one month periodwith the DC Team camped out for the duration.
What spurred onthe development of such a program was basically DC wanting to give backto both the team and New York itself to all the local kids who live andbreath skateboarding. From the outset, it was about getting the DC Teamtogether and giving them the chance to do what they do best skate. Andto a large extent just hang out together something they all do well andwith the East Coast Skate community that makes New York New York.
KINGOF NEW YORK was set up with these two objectives clearly divided butworking together as one for the totality. We wanted to give them thechance to just skate and in doing so knew that that would give us thebasis of a great month of activities that would naturally grow andcreate new opportunities as the program developed.
By having theDC Team all together, we have some of the best footage and content andat the same time they presented a long overdue face of DCs Super Teamto the East Coast and New York.
